As you begin your journey, you'll follow the winding track along Wall Side Plantation, where the gentle rustling of leaves provides a calming soundtrack to your hike. The path leads you up to Sugar Hill, where you can catch your first glimpse of the sprawling estate. From there, you'll pass close to the iconic sets of Emmerdale, adding a touch of local culture to your scenic adventure.
Continuing on, you'll arrive at the Eccup Reservoir, the largest body of water in West Yorkshire. Here, the tranquil waters are surrounded by rich biodiversity, including rare bird species and unique plant life, making this a perfect spot for nature enthusiasts. As you soak in the breathtaking vistas, take a moment to appreciate the harmony of the landscape.
After reveling in the beauty of the reservoir, you'll make your way back towards Harewood House through Carr Plantation and Piper Wood. These enchanting wooded areas are filled with towering trees and vibrant flora, offering a picturesque backdrop as you navigate the trails. The sights and sounds of nature will accompany you as you pass the tranquil lake, a highlight of the route.
As you approach the finish line, the sense of accomplishment builds, and you'll be greeted with a warm welcome back to the estate. Upon completing the hike, you'll receive a well-deserved medal and a finish line prize—a fitting reward for your efforts in this beautiful and historic setting.

Things to note
Spectators
Spectators are always welcome at the West Yorkshire Hiking Trail. We love that spectators further add to the fantastic atmosphere at the event.
Course Signage
The hike will be clearly signed using PINK arrows and PINK tape.
We will also mark hazards and road junctions with 'Caution' signs. Please take care at these points.
Event Day Timings
7:15am - Venue Opens
The car park opens to allow hikers to prepare themselves for the hike and grab a coffee.
8:30AM - All Hiking Distances Start!
The hike kicks off as the walkers cross the start line.
2:00pm - The Hike Finishes / Cut-off Time
Your adventure finishes, you will cross the finish line and collect your bag full of goodies.
2:30pm - The Event Centre Closes
The venue closes.
