Sussex Downs Trail Hike & Walking Challenge (Lewes, Brighton) - Saturday 28th November 2026
Experience the breathtaking South Downs National Park with the Sussex Downs Trail Hike, a scenic walking and hiking challenge set in Mid-Sussex. Starting from the well-equipped Plumpton Racecourse, the event is easily accessible from Brighton, Haywards Heath, Lewes, Burgess Hill, and major routes including the A27 and A23.
With three route options 21k Half Marathon, 15k, and 10k this event caters to walkers and hikers of all levels. The route begins with a gently flattish 3.5km tree-lined section to warm up your legs before a rewarding climb to the South Downs Way, where you'll be treated to spectacular vistas of the Sussex countryside, Seven Sisters Country Park, and even distant sea views.
...The trail then loops along sturdy paths towards Brighton before returning to the South Downs Way, offering more breathtaking scenery. A downhill stretch from the hilltop leads to a flat final 3km, finishing your walk or hike with a strong and satisfying conclusion.

How to get there

Things to note
- You will collect your hiking bib number on arrival at the event. Please bring your QR code with you on the day and head to 'Registration' for collection.
- Save The Event Phone Number: 02033 717 156.
- Bib numbers should be displayed clearly on the front of you.
- We are plastic free, please bring a reusable cup / bottle for use at the water stations.
- There will be First Aid support located at the on-course aid stations and event centre.
Spectators
Spectators are always welcome at the Sussex Downs Hiking Trail. We love that spectators further add to the fantastic atmosphere at the event.
Course Signage
The hike will be clearly signed using PINK arrows and PINK tape.
We will also mark hazards and road junctions with 'Caution' signs. Please take care at these points.
Event Day Timings
7:15 am* - Venue Opens
The car park opens to allow hikers to prepare themselves for the hike and grab a coffee.
8:30 AM* - All Hiking Distances Start!
The hike kicks off as the walkers cross the start line.
2:00 pm* - The Hike Finishes / Cut-off Time
Your adventure finishes, you will cross the finish line and collect your bag full of goodies.
2:30 pm* - The Event Centre Closes
The venue closes.
